Romania’s women’s epee team made up of Ana-Maria Branza, Simona Gherman, Loredana Dinu and Simona Pop on Friday advanced to the semifinals of FIE World Fencing Championship 2015 in Moscow, after defeating Hungary in the quarterfinals 22-13.
Branza defeated Emese Szasz (1-0) in the first meeting, then Pop lost to Dorina Budai (0-3), Dinu narrowed the gap in the meeting with Julianna Revesz (1-0), and Gherman put Romania at an advantage after facing Budai (5-3), overall score 7-6. Branza won to Budai (3-2), with Gherman settling the game after overcoming Szasz 12-5; the final score was 22-13.
