OTTAWA – Canada is sending the Ukrainian army more than $22 million worth of cold weather gear, including jackets and boots.Defence Minister Rob Nicholson announced the donation today from surplus military stocks.He says the Department of Foreign Affairs will follow up with an additional $5 million in non-lethal aid early in the new year, including a field hospital and bomb-disposal equipment.Nicholson would not say whether the Harper government supports providing heavy military equipment, including tanks and armoured vehicles, to replace those destroyed in fighting against Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine.He says Ukraine’s embattled government is only asking Canada to provide …read more
