Russia’s strategic foreign policy goal is to prevent the consolidation of the United States’ global dominance. This strategy became even more apparent in 2014 from the Russian strong response to the ouster of the pro-Russian government in Ukraine and the emergence of a pro-West leadership. Russia was extremely worried about the close proximity of the newly pro-West government and was concerned about the possibility of a NATO military presence in its back yard.
