Could Saturday’s JPS blackout be the result of a cyber-attack?


In recent times, countries have fallen victim to a cyber-attack on their electrical power supplies at the hands of hackers. Could this have happened to the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) and what does it have in place to counter such measures?
Only last December, power went out in Ukraine’s capital city Kiev and the western parts of the country as a result of hackers immobilising a quarter of the country’s power grid.
