American State Secretary John Kerry, during his visit to Bulgaria, announced the two countries will work on four issues – regional security and defense, energy independence, rule of law and improving ties in education and other areas. One of the points raised by Kerry, in light of the crisis in Ukraine and the deteriorating relations with Russia, and the terror threat, will be to strengthen NATO, where Bulgaria is a member.
