Rabat – Middle-distance runner Rababae Arafi from Morocco has booked her spot in the final of the 800m at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing.
Arafi finished first in the semifinal at the ‘Bird’s Nest’ on Thursday in 1:58:55, qualifying automatically to the 800m final.
The 24-year-old finished ahead of Nataliia Lupu (Ukraine) 1:58.57, Selina Buechel (Switzerland) 1:58.63, Fabienne Kohlmann (Germany) 1:59.42, Sofia Ennaoui (Poland) 2:00.11, Brenda Martinez (U.S.) 2:00.27, Jenny Meadows (Britain) 2:00.53 and Caster Semenya (South Africa) 2:03.18.
The miniature Moroccan Rababe Arafi qualified to the semi-final on Wednesday, finishing first with a personal best of 2:00.37.
