KRAKOW, Poland — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is bound for Ukraine after an emotional visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in Poland today.
A sombre Trudeau wiped away tears several times as he toured the notorious Second World War camp, where more than one million people, mostly Jews, were killed by the Nazis.
Blue skies and warm sunshine that beamed down on the prime minister during the visit were an odd contrast to piles of women’s and girl’s hair and scratches on gas chamber walls that remain in the camp, a testament to the horrible history of the place.
