Ukraine’s president on Monday dissolved parliament and called for early elections in October, in order to “cleanse” the parliament from separatist sympathisers. Poroshenko is meeting today with Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, at a summit in Minsk, capital of Belarus.
In a statement on his website, President Petro Poroshenko said snap elections would be held Oct. 26.
