KIEV – Mikheil Saakashvili, the former president of Georgia who resurrected his political career as a regional governor in Ukraine, resigned on Monday, accusing Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko of “personally supporting” corruption.
Spitting out his words in anger during a press conference, he lashed out at officials he said were impeding Ukraine’s reforms.
“I will do whatever it takes for complete victory to rid Ukraine of this filth, of this corrupt scum, which capitalize on the blood of our soldiers … whose only motivation in life is to fill its own pockets, strengthen its own clan and bleed Ukraine dry,” he said.
