Russia is warning that the 2002 US withdrawal from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty could still trigger a new Cold War.
Speaking at the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the US unilateral decision could push the world into a new arms race. According to the 1972 ABM treaty signed between the U-S and Soviet Union, neither side was allowed to build an anti-missile shield. Former US president George W Bush withdrew from ABM claiming the country needed to protect itself from what he called rogue states.
