Syriza breakaway group receive mandate to form government Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos has given a mandate for forming a government to Panagiotis Lafazanis, leader of the Syriza breakaway party Popular Unity. Lafazanis said that he would use the mandate to test the option of a government based on total opposition to bailout agreements. Under the Constitution following the resignation of the prime minister, the president gives exploratory mandates to the three largest parliamentary parties for forming a coalition government.
