After meeting with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in Sofia, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin said he would send the message of the Catholic community in Bulgaria that they would like the Pope to pay a visit to this country. The only Pope to have visited Bulgaria so far is John Paul II, who arrived in Sofia in 2002. During his visit to Bulgaria cardinal Parolin was also welcomed by President Rosen Plevneliev.
