The European Union’s enlargement commissioner, Stefan Fuele, said EU member states are working on an additional set of sanctions against Moscow. In an interview with RFE/RL’s Irina Lagunina and Andrei Shary in Prague, Fuele said if the situation in eastern Ukraine continues to be destabilized “with Russia’s direct participation,” the EU will introduce sanctions that go beyond similar measures taken by the United States. Fuele said the EU is now focused on showing the Kremlin that the European aspirations of Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine do not contradict their traditionally good relations with Russia.
