Thirty years after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, not many people still live in the areas of Belarus most affected by the fallout. Numerous villages were evacuated following the catastrophe and remain largely empty today. But a hardy few remain in the Krasnapolle district in the country’s east, and some have even moved there.
