IQALUIT, Nunavut – A survey of people in countries surrounding the Arctic circle suggests that security fears in the region are growing.In five of the eight countries that form the Arctic Council, including Canada, about a third of respondents said they felt the chance of an armed conflict in the region has increased.In the remaining three countries, including Russia, a majority of respondents said the threat had increased.Russia has been blamed for increasing tension in the Arctic Council through its actions in Ukraine as well as by holding massive northern military exercises.A sizable number of respondents from all countries said …read more
