20 May: Book claims missing plane was shot down
By May, a book had been rushed out with sensational claims that the missing Malaysian Airways flight MH370 may have been shot down accidentally by US-Thai joint strike fighters in a military exercise that went wrong in the South China Sea. The book also claimed that search and rescue efforts were deliberately sent in the wrong direction as part of a cover-up. The claims were dismissed by the international team of investigators.
