The countries of Ukraine and Russia got into an epic exchange on Twitter Tuesday — and it concluded with Ukraine tweeting a GIF of a popular American cartoon.
The bizarre back and forth came after Russian President Vladimir Putin referred to Queen Anne, the queen consort of France during part of the 11th century, as “Anne of Russia.” Queen Anne was born in Kievan Rus, a medieval European territory near modern day Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. Both modern day Ukraine and modern day Russia claim Kievan Rus as their respective ancestry homelands, according to the Encyclopedia Brittanica.
