Vladimir Putin will support U.S. efforts to defeat Islamic State but Moscow would never agree to outside forces deciding who should govern Syria, the Russian president said Thursday.
Speaking at his end-of-year news conference, Putin said Moscow supports the draft United Nations Security Council resolution to strengthen sanctions against those who do business with terrorist groups, which is expected to be adopted Thursday.
“ISIL is posing a threat to everyone, so the sooner we do this, the sooner we settle this conflict, the better,” Putin said.
