Canada stands to gain by engaging with Russia and Iran, and will shoot itself in the foot if it doesn’t. That was Foreign Affairs Minister Stéphane Dion’s assessment Thursday, as he gave a sweeping preview of how the Liberal government plans to work with the rest of the world.
Speaking at a foreign policy event hosted by the Canada2020 think-tank, Dion said there are many things the previous Conservative government did on the world stage that the Liberals will continue. That includes fighting against early and forced marriages, and championing improvements to maternal and child health.
