Catherine Ashton, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, has called an emergency meeting of EU foreign ministers on Friday (15 August).
France and Italy have been pushing for an urgent meeting to discuss the worsening situation in Iraq, where militant group the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has taken over vast swathes of the country and forced Christian and Yazidi minorities to flee to to the mountains in fear for their lives.
