NEWPORT, England – NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen says the military alliance is ready to help Iraq deal with Islamic terrorists, raising the possibility that ground troops could play a role.
Rasmussen said that Iraq has not yet requested help but if it did come NATO would “seriously” consider it.
The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), an al Qaeda splinter group, has seized large parts of Iraq and forced Iraqi military units to retreat on a number of fronts.
The U.S. has launched airstrikes against ISIL but is not keen to commit troops on the ground. …read more
