We welcome this country’s commitment to send a small Canadian Forces contingent to Ukraine, where it’ll spend the next two years training up soldiers there in areas like explosive ordnance disposal, military policing, medicine, flight safety and logistics system modernization. It’s important, however, to keep our contribution in the proper perspective.
Defence Minister Jason Kenney, when asked Tuesday whether Canada’s commitment might rile up Russian President Vladimir Putin (an important consideration, given the disputed Ukrainian region is currently under an uneasy ceasefire), suggested the opposite would happen.
