In a small gesture with much larger political symbolism, an NGO with close ties to the right-wing, northern Italian separatist party Lega Nord is planning on sending a modest delivery of aid to Russian-allied separatists in war-torn eastern Ukraine this week, POLITICO has learned.
While humanitarian in nature, the shipment is consistent with the pro-Russian stance of many right-wing populist parties in Europe — a relationship that has become significantly tighter since the Ukrainian crisis began in early 2014.
