President Barack Obama briefly addressed on Thursday reports that a Malaysia Airlines passenger plane carrying nearly 300 people had been reportedly shot down near the Ukrainian border. “It looks like it may be a terrible tragedy,” Obama said at the start of a speech in Wilmington, Delaware. He said the White House’s “first priority” would be determining whether any U.S. citizens were on board. An adviser to Ukraine’s Interior Minister has said 23 U.S. citizens were among those on board who were killed in the crash. None of the reported 295 people on board survived.
