Freedom House’s annual Freedom in the World survey was released yesterday, and found that 18 countries were on a downward trend compared to last year in terms of upholding political and civil liberties. One of them is a crucial US ally responsible for about $1.3 billion in daily trade and a recipient of $194 million in security assistance: Mexico, which shares a 1,900-mile border with the US.
