KIEV — Ukraine is at war and facing an economic catastrophe, but this week’s summit with the European Union will leave the country virtually empty handed.
Kiev won’t get any weapons or much money. The EU is balking at sending peacekeepers to the war-torn east of the country. Even the idea of giving Ukrainians visa-free entry to the EU isn’t gaining much traction.
“To be honest, I do not see enthusiasm in Europe today when it comes to a special peacekeeping mission in Ukraine,” Donald Tusk, president of the European Council, said in an interview with the Ukrinform news agency.
