In an effort to reduce the country’s debt, the Italian government will start selling visas to non-EU citizens in exchange for a â¬500,000 investment in a start-up.
The plan, approved by the Italian parliament in early December as part of the 2017 budget, is expected to take effect next month once the fine-print has been finalized.
Having purchased the visa, applicants can obtain a permit to stay in Italy for up to five years, at which point they can apply for longer permits and, eventually, Italian citizenship.
