European tour operators will no longer be able to operate in Crimea, the summer playground of generations of Russians and Ukrainians, the European Union’s member states decided today.
In addition, EU citizens and EU-based property companies are now prohibited from buying real estate on the peninsula or from buying, financing and providing other services to Crimean companies.
These are among a series of new restrictions on business imposed by the EU in protest at Russia’s annexation this March of Crimea, a peninsula recognised under international law as belonging to Ukraine.
