David Cameron, Matteo Renzi and François Hollande are the EU leaders with the most Twitter followers, but a new study of digital Goliaths out Wednesday cautions that “a massive following does not always translate into influence.”
The 2016 “Twiplomacy” report by PR firm Burson-Marsteller analyzed 795 Twitter accounts of heads of state and government in 173 countries, with a total audience of more than 300 million followers.
The study looked at leaders’ activities on a range of social networks including Facebook, Snapchat and YouTube, but found Twitter is the leading social network used by world leaders.
