A day after suspending the United States partnership with Russia in trying to impose a ceasefire in Syria, Secretary of State John Kerry sharply accused the Kremlin of turning a “blind eye” to atrocities against civilians and of trying to help the Syrian regime secure a military victory.
Kerry, in a speech in Brussels that was largely focused on transatlantic relations, said the U.S. would continue to push for peace but could no longer rely on Russia, which he said was also refusing to guarantee safe passage of humanitarian aid.
