Many children think that the adult conversations happening at their kitchen table are a fascinating unknown – the impassioned grown-up talk that they are still too young to understand. For Kaja Kallas, those conversations at her kitchen table were creating the country she lives in today.
Her father, Siim Kallas, was one of the initiators of restoring Estonia’s re-establishment of independence in the early 1990s. Kaja was a young teenager at the time, and as the Soviet Union broke apart, Siim Kallas gathered Estonian politicians and intellectuals in his home to plan out what was coming next.
