Lithuania has revealed that one of its diplomats has been murdered in eastern Ukraine.
Linas Linkevicius, Lithuania’s foreign minister, sent out a tweet saying that “Mykola Zelenec was kidnapped and brutally killed by terrorists there [the embattled city of Luhansk]“. Zelenec was Lithuania’s honorary consul in the city.
The announcement came after officials in Ukraine said that 20 lorries carrying aid had entered Luhansk on Friday, despite objections from Kiev. Ukrainian officials described the convoy crossing the border as an “invasion”.
All the lorries in the unauthorised Russian aid convoy have now crossed back over the border from Ukraine.
