Leaders of the European Union’s member states are holding a summit in Brussels today (30 August) to choose who will become the next EU foreign policy chief and president of the European Council.
Leaders are hoping for a swift agreement so that the summit can move on to discussing the crisis in Ukraine, which reached a new level this week as Ukraine claimed that Russian troops have invaded the country. Petro Poroshenko, the president of Ukraine, has asked the EU to draw up new sanctions against Russia in response.
