Thousands of people marched in Moscow on Sunday (1 March) to honour Boris Nemtsov, an opposition politician who was killed on Friday.
Nemtsov, 55, was shot on a bridge near the Kremlin. He was a top official in the Republican Party of Russia/Party of People’s Freedom, a liberal opposition group. Nemtsov has been a vocal critic of Vladimir Putin, Russia’s president, and had been arrested several times, most recently when he took part in protests against elections in 2011 and 2012. He served as deputy prime minister under former president Boris Yeltsin.
