LONDON — Russia is the “chief” threat to Europe’s security and the U.K. will remain “unconditionally” committed to countering it and maintaining the Continent’s security, Theresa May said Monday.
In a strongly-worded speech aimed at Russian President Vladimir Putin, May accused Russia of trying to “weaponize information … to sow discord in the West and undermine our institutions.”
Speaking at the London mayor’s banquet, May sought to dismiss any suggestions that Brexit could weaken the European alliance in the face of Russian aggression, pledging to do “what is necessary to protect ourselves, and work with our allies to do likewise.”
