PARIS — Former French prime minister François Fillon will knock out two heavy-hitting rivals to become the center-right’s presidential candidate, according to a new poll.
The poll, published by Opinionway late Tuesday, has Fillon ahead in the race for the first time, beating frontrunner Alain Juppé in a November 27 runoff round by 54 percent to 46 percent. If Fillon ended up facing Nicolas Sarkozy, his boss for five years, he would also win, with 54 percent support versus 41 percent for the former president.
