A Russian politician who is also a famous crooner has been given a visa to receive medical treatment in Italy despite being on an EU blacklist — thanks to some help from Vladimir Putin.
Singer Iosif Kobzon — known as “Russia’s Frank Sinatra” — is supposed to be barred from entering the European Union. In February he was added to a list of high-profile Russians and Ukrainians not allowed to enter the bloc that was drawn up after Russia’s annexation of Crimea. “I spit on their sanctions,” he told Russian television after being added to the blacklist.
