The leaders of France and Germany will meet Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in Berlin on Monday as part of a fresh diplomatic push to salvage the cease-fire, which has been further undermined by an outbreak of shelling in the Donetsk region.
Chancellor Angela Merkel and President François Hollande will meet Poroshenko to try to end the violence, according to French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius. Poroshenko spoke with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker earlier this week and the two agreed to meet in Brussels before the end of August.
