The United States approved plans to station more troops and tanks along NATO’s eastern border to reassure allies worried about the threat from Russia, it announced Wednesday.
“As part of the United States’ commitment to increased assurance and deterrence, U.S. Army Europe will begin receiving continuous troop rotations of U.S.-based armored brigade combat teams to the European theater in February 2017, bringing the total Army presence in Europe up to three fully-manned Army brigades,” the United States European Command said in a statement.
The plans are part of a proposal announced last year called the European Reassurance Initiative.
