Tony Brenton’s recent piece (“Don’t wait for Russia to take the first step,” March 20) makes the flawed argument that Russia’s actions in Ukraine were motivated by legitimate security concerns, and a response to provocations from the West.
But that is a dangerous line of thinking. While we can acknowledge that Russia has a point of view, Ukraine is a sovereign country and its people have a right to decide their own future.
