Alberta Premier Jim Prentice’s eastern adventure hasn’t yet moved popular interest in TransCanada Corp.’s Energy East pipeline, though his soft power approach has cooled the rhetoric around energy.
After a fortnight that saw Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall rail against Ontario and Quebec for raising concerns on Energy East, Prentice’s meeting with Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard produced a conciliatory joint news conference, with Prentice even acknowledging the environmental risks of the pipeline’s export terminal in Cacouna, Quebec: “Belugas are important,” he affirmed.
