Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to give his annual state of the nation address in Moscow on Thursday.
The speech comes at the end of a year that has been both economically and politically difficult for Russia. The country’s economy is still reeling and the country is involved in two ongoing wars — in Syria and Ukraine.
International relations, meanwhile, have soured, and in February, the brazen, public murder of the opposition leader Boris Nemtsov near the Kremlin shook the country.
