The Balkan gas hub project put forward by Bulgaria is not aimed at going around Ukraine’s gas transportation network, Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova said on Saturday.
“I dare say [our concept of Balkan[ is really suffessful and feasible, considering the advantage which Bulgaria has to realize such a project,” Petkova told Darik Radio in an interview, citing the country’s “geographic location” and “the well-developed gas transportation infrastructure”.
Petkova confirmed that Russia is viewed as “one of the potential sources of gas for the hub,” but made clear the project will be designed to fully comply with the EU’s Third Energy Package.
