Following a meeting with the heads of the Ukrainian law enforcement agencies on Thursday, President Petro Poroshenko declared December 9 as a “day of silence” in eastern Ukraine.
If the December 9 ceasefire is observed by both sides, it will be a positive step towards the implementation of the Minsk accords.
Ukraine is ready to start withdrawing its heavy weapons from the eastern frontline on December 10, if the pro-Russian rebels respond with similar measures.
The ceasefire that had been agreed between the government in Kiev and the rebels on September 5 in Minsk, has been breached on numerous occasions.
