As expected, Canada will contribute to NATO’s new force on Russia’s border.
Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan and Foreign Affairs Minister Stéphane Dion announced Thursday that Canada “will take on a leadership role within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to support the Alliance’s strengthened deterrence and defence posture in Eastern and Central Europe.”
Canada will establish and lead a rotational multinational NATO battlegroup, the ministers stated in a news release.
Additional details of the Canadian Forces’ contribution will be announced at the NATO Summit, which will take place in Warsaw, Poland, on July 8-9.
