Canada will send 200 troops to Ukraine for the next two years to help train military forces in that country, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced Tuesday.
Harper made the announcement at National Defence Headquarters and was joined by Defence Minister Jason Kenney and Gen. Tom Lawson, Chief of the Defence Staff.
The development was the latest move by the federal Conservative government in assisting Ukraine since last year’s takeover of Crimea by Russia’s Vladimir Putin. Russia also backs rebels in the eastern part of Ukraine.
