The Conservative government is under pressure over its refusal to provide “lethal” military aid to Ukraine or to sanction three Russians tied to both Vladimir Putin and Canadian businesses.
The government announced economic sanctions and travel bans against 11 additional Russian officials and nine Ukrainian separatist leaders last week in retaliation for Russia’s annexation of Crimea and support for rebel forces in eastern Ukraine.
Since March, the government has hit 77 Russians and 63 Ukrainians with sanctions, while also targeting 34 Russian banks, energy companies, arms companies and other entities.
