The Indian Navy will receive three new Admiral Grigorovich-class frigates from Russia by 2018, the defence publication Janes reports, citing sources. The three frigates had been scheduled to join the Russian Navy’s fleet in the Black Sea. But the dispute with Ukraine left the three frigates without marine-gas turbine engines, Janes pointed out. So Russia will now sell them to India. To complete the ships, India can either use previously-acquired Ukrainian marine-gas turbine engines, or purchase them directly from Ukraine, according to Janes’ sources.
