Many of the images coming out of Eastern Ukraine of late are disturbing, but each is disturbing in its own unique way.
There are the shots of burnt out vehicles and apartment buildings scarred by artillery fire, symptoms of otherwise normal lives turned upside-down by conflict. There are the photos of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 passengers strewn about a burnt-out field, innocent victims of a mass murder that seems already to have faded from the public’s memory. There are the images of Russian “aid convoys,” escorted by tanks and attack helicopters, encroaching on a neighbour’s sovereign territory.
