The spectre of military conflict on foreign soil was front and centre Monday as MPs returned to Parliament and Prime Minister Stephen Harper declared his readiness to battle threats ranging from Islamic fundamentalists to Russian aggressors and Hamas terrorists.
Harper delivered his message in an election-style speech to Conservative troops at an Ottawa convention hall, where the prime minister, with two microphones pinned to his suit, walked among supporters who surrounded him and cheered.
